Day 24: Little Miss Pole Dance

The sun dawned brightly rain was lashing down as we woke up on the 24th of June. We were off to Poledance with Lucy Polesden Lacy, a local National Trust House and grounds for the first Polesden Lacy 10k.

As it was so cold, I'd grabbed a bin bag from my kitchen drawer, always useful at the start of races to keep toasty and warm! Unfortunately it was one of those huge bags that fits a wheely bin. No idea where I got it from but it's been in the drawer for ages, there was nothing to do but go with it, so we fashioned it into a kind of dress with a spare safety pin! Lovely and toasty warm at the start line.

The race started in the grounds and curled out of the grounds till it hit the tracks and went up and down. My first mile was done in under 9 minutes, so I was feeling confident I could manage a sub 60. But after hitting the first hill I wasn't sure. The total elevation was over 1500 feet-not really PB territory. However I ran really well (for me) and managed to overtake quite a few people on the hills and then have them overtake me on the flats! It was really muddy, but I do love a bit of mud and actually enjoyed the really deep muddy puddles.

I managed to finish in 1:02, which was a good time for me on a trail, I am normally slow on trails so was pleased that even tho it's late Juneathon and I ran 8 miles last night I was still able to pull not to shabby a time out.
The race finished with a handshake and congratulation for each runner from the race director, a lovely shiny medal and a chocolate bar!

The icing on the cake was Steve finishing in 9th place out of a field of 300. Really fantastic running- he's run so many June miles, I don't know how he does it!!

We finished the day off with dry clean clothes and shoes, coffee and a picnic on the lawn of the house, relaxing and enjoying the fantastic views. What a lovely day! I'd highly recommend the race if you get a chance to take part. Surrey has beautiful hills they are calling out to be run.
