After another weekend lay-in, there were 10 miles waiting to be bagged. It was spitting with rain, cloudy and the air had a distinctly muggy feel to it. We set out along the damp roads for about two miles. We had, in advance, decided on running along the cycle path, Route 21 which goes from Greenwich to Eastbourne.
The path is mainly trail with a few 'roady' bits. Steve asked me if I wanted to choose 'hills or death', I of course sensibly chose death. I am not a lover of hills, they make me tired and grumpy! However I was informed that there wasn't actually any death available on this occasion and so the hills would have to suffice! Pah and meh and bleurgh!
The first hill involves almost a 100ft climb in under half a mile, a bit of a long drawn out killer. However we ploughed on and down till the next hill a 70 foot climb in about .3 of a mile. In total the whole climb on the run was 333 feet, not huge but on a long run it was enough!
All in all, despite the rain it was a good run, 10 miles in 1:39:40! Average speed 9:58 min/mile. I was tired at the end but decided that water and three jelly babies are probably not a proper marathon training fueling strategy, next time I'll take a tasty sachet drink or some lucozade . Today's run was a PB for me and made me think that if I can keep up with that pace on a long run I'm in for a 4:something marathon in the Autumn , maybe 4:20/4:30, who knows.... Steve reckons I can go a bit quicker, but I think he's just over-optimistic! Still it was great running with someone else and we're definitely going to do more long runs together.
The rest of the day has been revise, revise, eat and revise, with a rewarding sausage and mash for lunch and a creme egg with a cup of tea late afternoon!
My Juneathon/examathon strategy remains,
Keep calm and go for a run!
NB: tomorrow I am thinking of wearing running gear to the exam so after I can nip out into Stanmer Park for a run!
Miles:10
Total Juneathoning running: 53 Oh yes!
Exams taken:2
Exams still to take: 4
Creme eggs:1
10 hilly miles in 1:39?!!! I need a lie down just thinking about that, well done!
ReplyDeleteGreat running today, great total mileage, great effort on the hills!
ReplyDeleteI am currently refueling with strawberry milkshake and opal fruits (they're actually 'starbursts' but they'll always be 'opal fruits' to me!!!!)
Mmmm, creme eggs :)
ReplyDeleteWell done on 10 hilly miles in miserable weather!
10 hilly miles in an impressive time and on three jelly babies, fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteGreat hilly running. Maybe you should eat the creme eggs before running for fuel!
ReplyDeleteMy running partner, who when trying for the Marathon wasn't my running partner because I was way too slow for her was averaging a 10 min mile pace in her training runs and she pulled off a 4.22 marathon time, so you're well on track for sub-4.30!!
